Ian has served the Commonwealth of Kentucky for 13 years, with over a decade of GIS experience, including seven years as a Systems Engineer and GIS Analyst with the Division of Geographic Information.
In recent years, his work has focused on backend development, workflow automation, and building tools to help users access and utilize
KyFromAbove data on AWS. He led the migration of KyFromAbove data from Box.com to AWS, where the products now receive 5–10 million requests per month. He also developed a
STAC API and adapted the
Titiler-PgSTAC API for deployment as a serverless application on AWS.
This is an exciting time for GIS in Kentucky as workflows continue to transition to the cloud, KyFromAbove prepares for Phase 4 data acquisitions, and adoption of FAIR data principles continues to grow.
